STREET NIGHT MARKET |
Temple
Street comes to life at dusk, Traffic stops,
People swarm, And hundreds of little stalls
appear out of nowhere. This is the famed Temple
Street Night Market. Carts bulge with goods,
from casual clothing to mobile phones and
watches. You might be able to buy all your
souvenirs here. If you're lucky, you'll
encounter impromtu Chinese street opera,
fortune-tellers, even street dentists. Food
stalls abound too, serving up snacks and dishes.
If everything looks clean and you're hungry,
then pull up a chair. The market opens daily
from 4:00pm to midnight. Most people go after
7:00pm. |

JADE MARKET |
A short walk south from the temple is the Jade Market (located on the junction of Kansu and Battery streets), where hawkers sell various shades and qualities of the precious stone. To Chinese, jade has great spiritual value for warding off evil. When carved into certain shapes, it can represent wealth (deer), good fortune (tiger) and power (dragon). Don't buy expensive jade unless you are with an expert. The hours are from 10:00am
to 2:30pm daily. Mornings are the best time to go. |

Situated

AVENUE OF STARS |
At
Asia's fist Avenue of Stars, you can see
plaques, hand prints and statues honoring
celebrities from the silver screen, and those
behind the camera. The latest addition is a
bronze statue of the legendary kung-fu action
star Bruse Lee. Find out ll you need to know
about the 100-year development of this Hollywood
of Asia and enjoy the star-studded harbour view
with "A Symphony of Lights" every night at

LADIES MARKET |
The Ladies' Market in Tung Choi Street is the place to find inexpensive women's clothes, from lingerie to shoes. It's especially good for jeans and accessories. Men's and kids' clothing, as well as toys and knick-knacks, are also on sale. Open from around noon to 11:30pm.

The city's most fragrant avenue is also
near Prince Edward Road West. At the
Flower Market, blooms from around the
world line the stalls and are priced at
almost a third of city flower shops.
It's no wonder the hotels come here to
buy flowers for their extravagant
centerpieces. Generally open from
10am-6pm.

PO STREET BIRD GARDEN |
With 70 bird stalls showcasing a variety of melodious songbirds, this garden, with its courtyards and moongates, is a pleasure of both sight and sound. Songbirds remain a favourite pet of some local men, and the garden is testimony to the excessive pampering they receive. Merchants stock items such as fancy teak cages, tiny procelain water bowls, even culinary delicacies (for birds, that is), such as grasshoppers. Free; open from around 7am-8pm. |
